The Ian Anderson

The Ian Anderson

Ian grew up on the Mornington Peninsula in the 1960’s, and went to a local school until year 11 when a Dental Technician’s apprenticeship beckoned. He worked in a number of commercial dental laboratories until bitten by the travel bug.

Ian’s journey began in 1985 on a one way ticket to London as he had limited funds. A year of backpacking saw him circumnavigate the globe and taught him the value of self sufficiency and what a treasure Australia is. Further travels include six weeks in India, tours of Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Japan and a two return trips to Europe.

On his return from what Ian likes to call his “World Tour”, he resumed his dental career. He undertook further studies and became a Dental Prosthetist. Initially working at the Dental Hospital then becoming self employed for eleven years.

After the break up of his marriage he did various jobs until he retired in 2019. This is when he started writing little poems or “ditties”, as Ian prefers to call them. It was suggested by a close friend that Ian should undertake a writing course. So in January of 2024 he joined his local U3A and began the seven week long Writing For Fun course. During this Ian discovered the joy of  story telling, so he enrolled in three courses at the Australian Writers Centre. Currently Ian is editing his first novel and has a second novel under way.
